Located on the corner of Torrens and Henty Streets, Wantina transformed a small cottage on a corner site to an inner city two-storey unit development.
The intent of the development on the corner of Haig Park allowed for the design to create its own dialogue with its site, as it does not relate to the architecture of the street but more of the surrounding context; the ark, mature trees, hedges and wide streets.
Access and Facades have been designed carefully so as to make it both usable and appealing from both street aspects. Views from the site are primarily to Haig Park and all units have been designed to take advantage of the outlook.
The design has allowed for maximum private open space to all units. All units have balconies and the lower units also have both landscaped private terraces and courts. All apartments are orientated north and will benefit from solar gain and cross ventilation achieved by the design.
With the emergence of increasingly varied and eclectic developments in Braddon, the opportunity to create exciting architectural development presented itself. Wantina is presents itself with a modern aesthetic, yet through the use of symmetry and a considered external colour scheme, the development appears timeless in a suburb of such mixed architectural character.
