The intention of the apartments was to create a design which took full advantage of the mountain views, the lake and the northern sun.
The brief was to create a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments with a variety of living styles. The building was designed to take full advantage of the site and create entries from the street. This allowed more apartments to face north. There are two buildings, one being 7 stories relating to the street corner and 5 stories relating to the lake. The 7 storey building has a commercial space on the ground floor to activate Anketell street. The 5 storey building is connected by striking red brick building with a shopfront incorporating circular windows which has been designed to separate itself from the 5 storey building. The buildings have been designed to have a visual link from Cynthea Teague Crescent to the park allowing pedestrians to link to the commercial spaces.
There are foyers allowing entry to both buildings which are linked directly to the street, as the design allows them to be private and secure. All apartments have been designed with three different finishes to create an individual style. The palette of colours and materials are of exceptional quality. The building is mainly off form concrete, dominion cladding which are materials requiring minimal maintenance which has been the main consideration whilst designing this building. The windows are full length to create the views and to optimise the northern sun.
The full height sliding doors relate to large balconies to allow for outdoor living. The glazing creates a visual look with the surrounding landscape and back drops of the mountain and Tuggeranong centre.
The external architecture is one of a modern building using modern materials which will stand the test of time. The building has been designed with the traditional proportions of base, middle and tops. We wanted to create a building that enhanced the immediate site and took full advantages of its proximity to this precinct.
